The Community Research Methods course provides a foundation for developing community-based research. Early exposure to research methodology prepares students to become forward-thinking leaders in the academic community. Students are exposed to research ethics, study design, statistics, measures of association, and study interpretation. The program is delivered through didacts and small group case discussions in Semester 01. Students integrate and apply knowledge and data throughout the course to synthesize and present a health problem as a Capstone Final Project. The project may consist of either an 8–10-page report and/or a scholarly piece, for example, a poster for presentation or publication. This is closely associated with the community health experience and is developed with guidance from the research advisors and facilitators and through peer review. The first section, PICO research outline, and HHS.gov or CITI certification will need to be completed in semester 01 as assignments.
