Overview
- Your e-books are provided through the Vital Source platform.
- You will learn how to create and register for a Vital Source and Bookshelf Account during IT Orientation.
- There are three ways to access your e-books: Online, Desktop, or Mobile.
- You are limited to downloading the Bookshelf to 2 Computers and 2 Mobile devices. Visit the Download BookshelfLinks to an external site. support page and then click on the link to download the Bookshelf Application version which suits your device.
How to Download your e-books to your Bookshelf
- You must first create and register for a Vital Source and Bookshelf account.
- Visit the MedCommunity Portal. Click on “Go to Class” to enter into
- Choose the Foundations of Medicine Course, then click on “Modules.”
- Go to the “Vital Source e-books.” If the Module is collapsed, click on the title to expand it.
- Click on the book title or books you wish to download. For example: “Grant’s Dissector.” It is recommended that you download all your books.
- You will get a button that says, “Load Grant’s Dissector in a new window.” Click the button.
- This will open a new window showing the book. Once this operation is successfully performed, this book will be associated with your Vital Source account.
- If you now go to your Vital Source Bookshelf, the book will be available for download.
- Go to “Account” then Update Bookshelf. Clicked on all the books to begin downloading them. This provides a download of the book and a ‘temporary’ license for each book.
- Repeat these steps for each book you want to view and add to your Vital Source Bookshelf.
- Note: After 2 weeks, you must go back to Canvas and click on each book again to get the “permanent” license for each book. Then the electronic book is yours to keep.
eBook Opt-out Option
- The timeline to opt out of ebooks is only during the first semester, one week before the semester starts through the first week on myRoss.
- Click student accounts > student account forms > RUSM Basic Sciences eBook Opt Out
- The students are notified in the checklist that Student Accounts/Financial Aid emails to students before the semester starting.
- There are no extensions to this deadline. If you have any questions, email your Student Accounts advisor at [email protected].
